Baseball season opend in Japan on March! A seven-month tournament is played by the teams within each of Japan's two professional baseball leagues (the Central League and Pacific League). The Yomiuri Giants are the oldest professional team in Japan with uncountable phenomenal players in its history. The team has produced Sadaharu Oh, the most famous professional in Japanese baseball, who hit the 868th homerun of his career for a new world record. Hideki Matsui of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim also belonged to the Giants when he played in Japan.
The Yomiuri Giants won three consecutive Central League championships starting in 2007 and will attempt their fourth this season! The team also won the Japan Series championship played by the winners of both leagues last year.
The tournament is also the first stage for draft rookies and a chance for Japanese baseball fans examine their skills. Yusei Kikuchi of the Seibu Lions, the first draft pick, will be welcomed with the applause of millions of fans very soon!
The Pacific League opened on March 20th and the Central League opened on March 26th.
