Extension of Bullet Train routes

Bullet train service will be extended to the Tohoku region (December 2010) and also to Kyushu (Spring 2011).

Tohoku Shinkansen services will be extended to the city of Aomori (Shin-Aomori station) in December with the opening of approximately 80-kilometer section of track in northeastern Japan.
This enables you to travel to the historical castle town of Hirosaki much easier, with just another half hour train ride from Shin-Aomori station. Hirosaki is not only famous for its dynamic Hirosaki Castle which was built in the 17th century, but also for its spectacular festivals such as Hirosaki Sakura Matsuri (cherry blossom festival) and the HIrosaki Neputa-matsuri Festival which draws people from all over Japan.

In addition, the current Shinkansen route in Western Japan and Kyushu will be connected in the spring of 2011, featuring the debut of the “Sakura” bullet train which will run from Osaka (Shin-Osaka station) to Kagoshima (Kagoshima Chuo station) in about 4 hours.

Getting directly to Kagoshima makes your entire travel to many attractions of Kagoshima much shorter. The World Heritage Site island, Yakushima could be reached by jet foil(2.5 hours) from the north pier of Kagoshima Honko which is only 15 minute bus ride away from Kagoshima Chuo station.
