Ishikawa Prefectural Traditional Industrial Arts Exhibition ISHIKAWA Style from Oct 4 to 9, 2010

Opening October 4th: ISHIKAWA Style: Ishikawa no Katachi at the Nippon Club, an exhibition promoting life lived together with the many industrial arts brought with pride from Ishikawa, Japan.
This exhibition has collected almost 300 objects focusing on cuisine—serving bowls, platters, etc.—into one viewing space. The following 8 industries from Ishikawa contributed representative traditional industrial arts objects: Wajima Lacquerware, Yamanaka Lacquerware, Kutani Porcelain, Kanazawa Lacquerware, Kanazawa Gold Leaf, Kaga Yuzen Silk, Ushikubi Pongee, and Kaga Embroidery.
Cultivated in Ishikawa's rich cultural and historical environment, these traditional industrial arts objects tie years of tradition, beauty, refinement and clever technique to our modern lives, suggesting new uses for the everyday. Ishikawa no Katachi, or "ISHIKAWA Style", allows viewers a glimpse of this beauty and charm.

Now, they are introducing the table arrangements of two women artists, one from the Noto region of Ishikawa, working with Wajima Lacquerware, and one from the Kaga region, working with Kutani Porcelain. Adding images of local cuisine from Ishikawa, we have prepared three types of tables: one setting with lacquerware as the focus, one on porcelain, and another with a fusion of both lacquerware and porcelain. Please enjoy their lovely arrangements overflowing with each artist's originality. Through these settings, we hope that our visitors can get a sense of Ishikawa, so that each may find new ways to improve their lives, and add a little bit of extra style courtesy of Ishikawa.
