World renowned French guidebook Michelin will release two new editions of its guides in February 2011 covering the most popular greater city areas in Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

"MICHELIN guide Tokyo Yokohama Kamakura" has obtained more stars than ever adding Tokyo's most popular neighborhoods, Yokohama and Kamakura. The number exceeds triple that of such great gourmet cities as New York and Paris, which represents the sophistication of Japanese culinary.

Yokohama has long been the leading trading ports since it opened in the late 19th century after a long absence of international trade and interaction. Now it is the second biggest city in Japan thriving in its industrial, commercial, and service sectors.

Kamakura is an old capital city and a good retreat for both urban residents and visitors. There are a number of temples and shrines including Kotoku-in Temple where a 39.3-feet tall open-air Buddha is seated.

Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe are the three leading cities in Kansai region, western Japan. Located next to each other, they have totally different characters and tastes. Kyoto, long residence of the imperial family and aristocrats, is the home of traditional Kaiseki cuisine. Osaka, having flourished as a business center has developed its food culture reputation as the “kitchen of the nation," and is a great place to get good value for money.

Kobe, the latest addition but not least important, is the home of the widely known brand beef, KOBE BEEF. Thanks to its history as an international port city, it has a good variety of food ranging from Western to Chinese and Japanese. Though less known than Kyoto and Osaka, mysterious Kobe does have something.

Those new editions of MICHELIN will be perfect guides for you to explore Japan, a gourmet heaven!
