City of Yokohama offers foreign tourists "Yokohama Special Suica," an IC card for public transportation

"Yokohama Special Suica"can be purchased at major hotels and tourist information centers in Yokohama.

City of Yokohama was designated by Japan Tourism Agency as a special district with intensive strategies for foreign tourists on September 2010 and kicks off a pilot program for developing IC card systems to improve the mobility of tourists. This program will last until February 2011.

The objective of this program is to analyze the trends in tourist activities and improve mobility of foreign visitors. In this program, City of Yokohama offers foreign visitors a set of special IC card "Suica" (issued by East Japan Railways) and "Minato Burari Ticket" accompanied by a special pass case. Questionnaire will also be done to users.
