Debut of JR-West's New Limited Express: the 287 Series

When timetables are revised on March 12, 2011, JR-West will introduce the 287 Series (46 cars), a new type of limited express train, for some cars used by the Konotori (new name of the Kitakinki as of March 2011) limited express between Shin-Osaka and Kinosakionsen as well as the Kinosaki, Maizuru and Hashidate limited express trains connecting Kyoto with Kinosakionsen, Higashi-Maizuru and Amanohashidate respectively.

The new car design is based on the JR limited express trains such as the Thunderbird, which runs on the Hokuriku Line, with the familiar warm colors of the current Kitakinki to make it stand out beautifully among the greenery along the lines. The body of the carriages has also been improved to provide even greater safety.

Inside the carriages, passengers will have seats with more legroom to improve comfort (including mobile device outlets on green cars and some regular cars) along with women-only lavatories for the convenience of female passengers, wheelchair accessible toilets and multi-purpose rooms for passengers who suddenly fall ill, breastfeeding mothers and others.

Make sure you ride the 287 Series, the comfortable new limited express, when you travel to romantic Kinosakionsen, a hot spring with a long history and the setting of a Japanese literary masterpiece; Amanohashidate, famed for its beautiful scenery and one of the Three Views of Japan; or the Kita-Kinki area and its many fabulous wonders.
