Demons out ! Good luck in! at the Tondaya in Kyoto

February 3rd
Demons out! Good luck in!

On February 3rd called Setsubun people open the doors and drive the demons or bad luck out of our homes and gardens by throwing beans and shouting "Demons out! Good luck in!" This came originally from a historical story that when people threw beans at demons bursted into town, they got blind and ran away. Here in Nishijin, we wrap beans as much as your ages in a paper and rub it on your body. Then we add a bean to those beans and eat them to pray for your health and safety for a year.
