JNTO and its tourism industry partners launched a special package of $ 780 including air fare and 4 nights stay in Tokyo from May 21 to 31, 2011. This super value package was aimed at boosting up the tourism in Japan which declined by 50 % then after the 3.11 earthquake, by expressing our gratitude to the U.S. citizens who had helped and consoled Japanese people.
There was a concern before the sale started that it might not boost tourism. However, once the package deal was released, inquires poured in, and the demands were so high that the agents couldn't accommodate all requests from customers. The enthusiasm of travelers reminded us of the high potential in the U.S. market.
The 6 travel agencies who participated in this package campaign, had agreed to donate $50 per each sale of the $780 package for the post-quake Japan relief charity, and with 155 people purchasing the package, the campaign succeeded in collecting $7,750 in total.
Here are some stories of those who actually traveled to Japan with this package, enjoying Tokyo, the most popular city in Japan with its mixture of old and new.
