Aomori
Port is located on the northern-most tip of the island of Honshu, connecting
the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Japan through the Tsugaru Straits. The seas
are calm as they wash into Mutsu Bay, making this an ideal port.
This beautiful, picturesque spot is home to unique festivals and cultures,
and is a great cruise stop at the center of Aomori Prefecture
of 1.5 million people. The cruise port is only minutes away from the
city center on foot. There are major department stores, hotels, and
hospitals. You will receive service fit for royalty.
The port is also accessible to major railway stations, expressways, and
airports, within only thirty minutes, making it an ideal tourist destination.
It is good to call at Aomori from April to October. People arriving
in August are fortunate to be able to join the famous Nebuta Festival. |

Ceremony |
At the wharf,
performances of traditional arts of Aomori will be the main
attraction, and a small gift will be presented to each passenger
going to Aomori. In addition, an exchange event is being planned
between the passengers and citizens of Aomori. |
The welcome
ceremony will be hosted by the Aomori Port Internationalization
Promotions Conference, which comprises of members from Aomori
Prefecture, Aomori City, Aomori Chamber of Commerce, and other
Citizen Groups. |

Japanese
Culture |
Japan's
famous Nebuta Festival has been seen in such places as London
and Hawaii, and is a world famous fire festival. The rhythms
and dances resemble that of Rio's Carnival and foreigners
alike will enjoy the Japanese style samba.
Furthermore, Aomori Prefecture is home to the Japanese traditions
of the Tsugaru Jamisen, where one can listen to the melodies
of this three stringed banjo. Foreigners alike will enjoy
the melodies resonating of Japanese Jazz. |

shuttle bus service; however, travel agencies in the city
can organize one for a fee. |

Sightseeing for
the Crews |
There is a large
park in the vicinity of the wharf used for the passenger cruise
ship. A five minute walk from there, one will reach the city
center where there are various department stores and restaurants,
so one can easily buy a light snack or enjoy a bit of shopping.
The heart of the citizens of Aomori is found at the Fish Market,
conveniently located in front of the JR Aomori Station. If
one wants to stretch their legs, one can visit the Sannai-Maruyama
Historical Site, which is only thirty minutes away by car,
or the world renowned artist's Munakata Shiko Museum, which
is only twenty minutes away by car. |

Aomori Prefecture, with
a population of 1.5 million, is home to the City of Aomori.
The capital of the prefecture, it will be the host of the
cruise and will welcome visitors with lined streets of shops
and restaurants. Just a few minutes away are the parks and
ASPAM as well as the Hakkoda-Maru Museum and railways. Such
tourist spots are just a hop, step, and jump away.
In addition, such excavation sites dating back to the Jomon
Period, about 5500 years ago, are found here, and has uncovered the culture

In the 17th Century, the
Tsugaru Clan unified the Northern Tohoku region built the
Hirosaki Castle, which still stands intact today. Surrounding
area of the castle is a park which is open to the public.
There are over 5000 cherry blossom trees planted there, representing
the national flower. When in full blossom in late April, the
atmosphere is one that of festive, coinciding with the cherry
blossom festival. In the backdrop, one can see the famous
Mt. Iwaki, which towers over the Tsugaru Plains and has been
referred to as the "Tsugaru Fuji." |
