Profile of the Port of KAGOSHIMA ... Kyushu

Kagoshima Port lies next to the city and west of Mt.Sakurajima, which stands on the other side of Kagoshima Bay.
The port offers one of the most popular views in Japan, and is often called the Naples of the Orient.
Every year many large Japanese and foreign cruise ships call at the port .
All the seasons can be enjoyed in a variety of ways throughout the year in Kagoshima. For example, indulge in cherry blossom viewing in the spring , marine sports in the summer , the glorious red leaves in the fall. And visit our famous hot springs in the winter.
In addition, an artificial island "Marine Port Kagoshima" was developed and opend in the central area of Kagoshima Port in September, 2007. The berths for international cruises are berths of sufficient capacity(length of 340m, depth of 9m) to accomodate large cruise ships.

Notes
(1)Kagoshima
(Kagoshima City, Mt.Sakurajima)
Kagoshima City is now the largest city in southern Kyusyu with a population of 600,000. An abundance of hot springs can be found within the city, which also affords a magnificent view of a volcano, Mt.Sakurajima as it towers over Kinko Bay and billows smoke high into the sky. The world-renowned Mt.Sakurajima is a symbol of Kagoshima. The fact it stands only four kilometers away from the city is indeed a rare example of coexistence between a metropolitan area and a volcano. Volcano Sakurajima can be reached from Kagoshima City by ferry in 15 minutes that runs around the clock. Ship, etc. 1 day
(2)Sengan-en Sengan-en was constructed in 1658 as the villa for Mitsuhisa Shimadzu, 19th lord of the Shimadzu Family. This is one of the most famous gardens in Japan renowned for its borrowed scenery where elements such as Mt.Sakurajima and Kinko Bay are nicely incorporated into the garden. Bus, etc. Half day
(3)Mt.Kaimon This active volcano rises 924 meters above sea level and is sometimes referred to as the "Mt.fuji of Satsuma" for its beautiful silhouette. At the foot of the mountain lies an area that remains free from frost. Rape blossoms and snapdragons here are the first to bloom anywhere in Japan. Bus, etc. 1 day
(4)Chiran Samurai Residences These Samurai Residences were built 250 years ago. Their gardens are beautifully designed with Mt.Hahaga-dake as a background. Other natural elements are also incorporated making the whole street of Samurai residences look like a series of miniature Japanese gardens created in boxes. Seven of the gardens are designated as national scenic spots. Bus, etc. 1 day
(5)Ibusuki
(Ibusuki City, Natural Hot Sandbath)
Ibusuki is one of the most popular hot spring resorts in Japan, where a mild climate prevails even in winter. Included among the many subtropical plants growing here are hibiscus and bougainvillaea, exquisitely beautiful in their bright colors.
Natural Hot Sandbath
The one and only natural hot sand bath in the world, it attracts many visitors who enjoy the bath's health and beauty benefits.
Bus, etc. 1 day
(6)Kirishima A hot spring resort amidst natural grandeur, Kirishima was designated as Japan's first national park in 1934. The sacred Takachiho Peak is famous for the myth related to the founding of Japan. With 23 volcanic peaks studded with craters, lakes, hot springs and plateaus, this national park is celebrated as one of the most magnificent parks in Japan. Scenery in Kirishima is attractive all year round, with azalea blossoms in spring, fresh green foliage in summer, blazing leaves in autumn and frosted trees in winter. Bus, etc. 1 day
(7)Kirishima Shrine Kirishima Shrine is indeed the symbol of Kirishima. It was originally built on top of Mt. Takachiho in the middle of the 6th century to deify Niniginomikoto. The present Kirishima Shrine was rebuilt in 1715 by the 21st feudal lord of the Satsuma Clan, Yoshitaka Shimadzu after the original one was destroyed by fire caused by an eruption. Bus, etc. 1 day
