EXCITING DAY TRIPS FROM TOKYO
New York City, New York, December 3, 2008 – Tokyo is already a major destination for various reasons, yet the city’s surrounding areas are filled with unique experiences and local flavor.
Takao-sanMountain:The quickest hiking getaway for visitors to Tokyo is Takao-sanMountain.Just 30 miles away from downtown Tokyo, you’ll discover a perfect balance with nature. The almost 2,000 foot high mountain is perfect for a day trip of casual hiking.For non-hikers, cable cars and chair lifts are available at the base of the mountain, offering a relaxing ride with views of seasonal natural beauty along the hillside.Located at the summit station of the cable car is Takaozan Beer Mount, the beer hall that Michelin Green Guide picked.This is one of the most popular beer garden during the summer with the panoramic view of Tokyo Metropolitan area.Takaozan is about 45 minutes from Shinjuku Station of central Tokyo.
Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort:It may be surprising to take a ski trip for a day from Tokyo, but nearby Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort, an almost 4,000 foot high mountain, is a compact ski resort for avid skiers and snowboarders. The resort also offers a variety of restaurants and hot spring spas.The resort opens December 12 for the 2008 – 2009 ski season, with 9 chair lifts in 12 terrains. From Tokyo, take the Jo-etsu Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo Station for 90 minutes to Gala Yuzawa Station, and just outside of the train station gate is the base camp of the ski resort!Gala Yuzawa ski package is available at JalPak International U.S.A.
Kawagoe:This old castle town, still full of traditional cityscapes and pre-WWII architecture, is just an hour train ride from central Tokyo. With a river running through the center, this retrospective town was developed as a transportation hub to Edo, the old Tokyo in the 18th Century.Today’s Kawagoe streets still embrace many of the elements from it’s past such as kura, traditional merchant’s warehouses and temples.Kawagoe Festival in fall is one of the largest in the nation.
